Emergency & Relief

The core operational area of Sabuj Sangha is in the remote Sundarbans delta region and most of them are isolated from the main land and inaccessible due to lack of proper road connectivity as well as transportation facility. The entire area is intersected by numerous rivers and creeks, very much prone to natural calamities like cyclonic storm, tidal surge, flood, soil erosion etc. as is closer to Bay of Bengal and is a common phenomenon.

During such catastrophe Sabuj Sangha’s own team responds to disaster situation along with local task force and people to conduct relief operation to reduce pain and sufferings of victims. The people especially the women, children and aged are shifted to safer places, schools, Gram Panchayat office or temporary shelters and are provided dry food, drinking water, medicine, ORS, soap, blanket, bleaching powder, tarpaulin etc. Regular health checkups are done for the sufferers by the medical team of the organization and treated if necessary. The organization as an immediate action requests the local Gram Panchayats, block & district administrations, corporates partner also civil society organizations for extending support to take up relief action collectively. Sabuj Sangha also requests its International development partners, both Government and non-Government extending their support for relief services as well as rehabilitation of affected people.

After relief operation Sabuj Sangha initiates programmes for rehabilitation of the victim families through construction of disaster resilience low cost houses, community toilets, repair/renovation of tube wells,water testing, disinfecting tube wells and provides material support (bamboo, bamboo mat etc.) reconstructing the houses, which are damaged completely of partially. De-watering ponds are done, damaged due to inundation of saline water.
