Observance of National Farmers Day 2023

The National Farmers Day was observed by Sabuj Sangha with support of HDFC Bank Ltd. under the project Holistic Rural Development Programme (HRDP). The programme was held on 23rd and 24th December 2023 at Kannyasree Maidan, Sundarban Janakalyan Sangha Vidya Niketan, Rudranagar, Sagar, South 24 Parganas. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Bankim Chandra Hazra, Minister in Charge, Ministry of Sundarban Affairs, Government of West Bengal and Mr. Srimanta Mali- Chairman of Gangasagar-Bakkhali Development Authority and Sahakari Sabhadhipati, Zila Parishad, South 24 Parganas by cutting the ribbon and hoisting the national flag. Mr. Ansuman Das, Secretary/Director offered his welcome address to the gathering. Around thousand female and male farmers of Sagar Block attended this two day programme with Krishi Mela. The farmers presented in the programme was addressed by the Chief Guests and other special guests including Mr. Dibyundu Sarkar-Retd. IAS, Govt. of W.B., Mr. Subhas Acharya-Retd. Secretary of Sundarban Development Board, Sabina Bibi – Sabhapati of Sagar Panchayat Samity, Mr. Mukul Murmu-ADA of Sagar Block, Mr. Bhagyadhar Barik- Literati & ex-teacher, Pradhan of Four Gram Panchayats and many other honorable guests of various walks of life. While the prime objective of the programme was to offer respect to the farmers for their endeavour to grow food for the nation, the discussion of the days mainly covered the points; Organic farming and the present practice of the farmers, the process of gradual shift to organic farming, animal husbandry as the primary income generation process of the small and marginal farmers, effective endeavour of the women SHGs, and women empowerment. Fifteen exhibition-cum-disseminations camps were organized in the mela ground by 15 Village Development Committees. And one camp disseminated the livelihood hub in Sagar Island. Cultural programme was performed by local cultural troop in the evening. Sharing, mutual learning, information dissemination, exchange of experience were held among the farmers during these days. Three progressive women farmers were selected and felicitated with a memento and an award of Rs.10,000 each for their outstanding progressive farm work.
