Ms. Barbara Voss, Hon’ble Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kolkata along with visited the ‘Sagar Euro Bakery’ located in Sagar Island, Sundarbanson 4th – 5th February 2026 and commended the women-led social enterprise which was built with support from Hanseatic India Forum, e.V Germany, IndienHilfe e.V. Germany, PUM Netherlands and Netherlands Govt.
She formally handed over the ownership of the bakery to the ‘Sagar Euro Bakery Group’ (women SHG) and presented Certificates of Appreciation to the trained women bakers, acknowledging their skills and leadership in building sustainable livelihoods.
Hon’ble Consul General was accompanied by Ms. Isha Dubey, Economic Affairs Officer, Consulate of Germany, Kolkata and Mr. Saikat Banerjee, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Amal Mukhopadhyay, Founder Chairman of ‘Hanseatic India Forum’, e.V. Germany was also present during their visit.
The delegation team also interacted with local communities to understand their livelihood challenges and aspirations. The Consul General further visited several Sabuj Sangha initiatives across Sagar Island, including the Kanailal Raha Jol Prokolpo, appreciating the organization’s integrated development efforts in the Sundarbans.
Mr. Ansuman Das, Secretary & Director of Sabuj Sangha along with his team, warmly welcomed the delegation and guided them to understand the different facets and ground realities of life and livelihoods in Sagar Island.
